The oldest continually running fair in the United States is right here in our backyard. The Steuben County fair is officially up and running. The fair got its start in 1819 as an agricultural event. Abigail Brinkerhoff has been enjoying the fair for the past three years to showcase her artistic side while still representing the beginning years of the fair. She spent the day making vegetable art, designing artwork with vegetables.
Although the weather wasn't the ideal weather for the night at the fair fans still came out to support it.
For the Booth family, the Steuben County Fair is a family tradition, 90 years of serving sugar waffles to the Southern Tier.
Anna, the owner of the sugar waffles described her tasty treat as, “it is a sugar waffle deep fried, we make a home made batter, deep fry them, and add sugar, plane or with chocolate.”
And when it comes to fair food everyone has their own personal preference whether it be sugar waffles, popcorn, or fried dough.
The fair has plenty of events going on throughout the week from a pie eating contest, the demolition derby, Aaron Tippin concert, and of course carnival games and lots of fair food.
The fair runs till Sunday.
