ELMIRA, N.Y. (18-News) Power is restored to Chemung County.
ELMIRA, N.Y. (18-News) Power is restored to Chemung County.

Clay Ellis, the NYSEG spokesman, said as of 11:48 this morning, power was restored to all of Chemung County.  Two circuits at the Madison Avenue substation were out, because of wires down at 1140 Sullivan Street.  The reason for the downed wires is not known as this time.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18-News) The NYSEG website reports over 1,400 people in Chemung County are without power.

18 News has yet to get confirmation on the cause of the power outage.  Right now, NYSEG is anticipating restoring power by 1 this afternoon.

The 1,435 customers impacted includes Wegmans on Grand Central Avenue and St. Joseph's Hospital.  Both locations have back up generators working.  The other businesses in the Wegmans Plaza is without power.

Corning Community College in Downtown Elmira is closed for the day because of the power outage. It will reopening Monday at 7 a.m.
