"The purpose of our inaugural Pink In the Rink game is to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. This disease is the most common cancer in women regardless or race or ethnicity and, according to the most recent statistics, nearly 50,000 women and 450 men die from breast cancer every year.
"Our event will help shine a spotlight on how important it is to continue to fight this disease, and we ask our wonderful fans and community members to make our fundraising effort as successful as possible. I also want to personally thank our title sponsor - Wine and Design, as well as Susan G. Komen of the Twin Tiers, for helping to make this event a possibility," said Jackals general manager Matt Hufnagel.
The Jackals have a full night planned for Pink In the Rink including ceremonies, prize raffles, and more. But the highlight of the night will be the pink-themed jerseys that the Jackals will wear for that game only. Immediately following the game the players will come back onto the ice one-by-one for a live jersey auction. Fans will be able to bid on their favorite player's jersey and the winning bidder will get to take the jersey home with them right off of that player's back. A portion of the proceeds from the jersey auction will be donated directly to Susan G. Komen of the Twin Tiers.
Fans who don't plan to bid on jerseys but still want to help with the fundraising effort can do so simply by purchasing tickets to the game. Tickets that are purchased online through this link will result in a portion of the purchase price being donated to Komen Twin Tiers. Fans can also purchase special Pink In the Rink donation tickets by using this order form and presenting it at the First Arena Box Office, by faxing it to 607-733-2237, or over the phone by calling 607-734-7825. Use the purchase code PINK when placing your order to ensure that the donation is made to Komen Twin Tiers.
Wine and Design will be pitching in on the fundraising efforts with a special prize raffle the night of Pink In the Rink. On Wednesday, March 26, 2014 Wine and Design will coach Jackals players in painting caricatures of one another at SplitRock Brewing Company inside First Arena. The caricatures will then be raffled off at Pink In the Rink on March 29. More details regarding the caricature paining will be announced at a later date.
