Lady Blue Raiders Add Another Josh Palmer Fund Title

A late fourth quarter explosion saw Horseheads snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) - Like most of the games at the Josh Palmer Fund Elmira Holiday Inn Classic on Monday, the girls championship was a close battle.  Both Horseheads and Penfield were able to utilize their strengths.

The Patriots worked the ball inside as much as they could, as it was a successful recipe against Notre Dame over the weekend.  For the most part, it kept them in the driver seat for most of the game.  Notice I said most.

it seemed like whenever the Blue Raiders needed a shot, they would get it.  It's no secret that Horseheads has many weapons, and whether it was Ellie Leszyk, or Amanda Shiefen, or Abbey Benesh, the Blue Raiders could almost make the big shot at will.

Leszyk hit a three pointer to tie the game at 50 in the closing minute.  The senior finished the night with 25 points and the tournament MVP.  But the one that put Horseheads over the hump was Schiefen's move into the paint with under 50 seconds on the clock.   She hit the runner and was fouled, sending her to the line, where she made the free throw, putting the Blue Raiders up for good, eventually ending in a 63-58 win.

It's the Blue Raiders sixth Josh Palmer Fund title.
