Mansfield's Rohl Named Coach of the Year

Rohl has been named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year for guiding the Mountaineers to new heights during the 2013 season.
NEW ORLEANS, LA – Mansfield University head cross country coach Mike Rohl has been named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year for guiding the Mountaineers to new heights during the 2013 season.

Rohl, now in his 12th season at Mansfield, led the Mountaineer women's team to its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship in program history, stunning a highly competitive field in late October. Mansfield put four runners in the top 10, led by third-place finisher Jess Scordino, to defeat four nationally-ranked programs and end Shippensburg's five-year run of titles.

It was Mansfield's first PSAC title in any sport since men's basketball and baseball captured conference titles in 1997. It was also only the second PSAC Championship won by a Mountaineer women's team since Mansfield won the conference volleyball title in 1983.

This past Saturday, the Mountaineer women finished a best-ever second out of 22 teams at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship. Mansfield was just narrowly edged by Edinboro who scored 81 points to the Mountie's 89. Rohl's Mountaineers were the only team to place four runners in the top 15.

With the top four finish at regionals, Mansfield qualifies as a team for the NCAA Division II Championships for the first time in school history. The NCAA Championships are set for Saturday, Nov. 23 in Spokane, Washington.
