Sicilian Bread Stuffing

1 large French bread loaf, cubed into 1” pieces
2 cups course chopped onion
2 cups course chopped celery
3 cloves minced garlic
¼ lb. butter (1 stick)
1tsp. salt
1 tsp. course ground pepper
2 tsp. ground sage
1 tsp. dry basil
2 eggs, beaten
½ cup chicken stock
1 lb. crumbled and browned sweet Italian sausage
cup toasted pine nuts 

Basic Preparation

Using a large saute’ pan, saute’ the onion, celery, garlic, and dry spices ,in butter, until the vegetables are tender and translucent. Set aside to cool. Next, crumble the raw Italian sausage into a second saute’ pan and brown evenly. Now, add the saute’d vegetables to the browned sausage and stir to combine.

Place the cubed French bread into a large bowl .Add the saute’d mixture and toasted pine nuts and stir to combine evenly. Now, add the beaten eggs and chicken stock. Mix until all ingredients are evenly combined and wet.

Pour the unbaked stuffing into a greased casserole dish and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until you reach an internal temperature of 170 degrees. Remove from oven and rest 10 minutes before serving with your holiday meal
