Mikayla Newton

Mikayla Newton joined the WETM 18 News team as an anchor/weekday reporter in September 2019.

Born in Riverdale, Georgia, Mikayla graduated from Georgia State University where she received a B.A. in broadcast journalism with a minor in Spanish. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Before coming to WETM, Mikayla freelanced for CNN as a Cross-Platform production assistant/ associate producer for HLN. Newton interned at WAGA-TV, Atlanta’s second largest news station. She also served as Georgia State University’s news director, anchor and reporter for their broadcast station, Panther Report Network.

When she’s not working, she enjoys her time reading, writing, speaking at engagements, taking photographs, taping podcasts, making documentaries, and dedicates her time to serving the community. Newton is also the self-published author of ‘Elevator Rides are Awkward: A Story about Social Media and the Generational Curse.’
