Who is STEG?

Southern Tier Economic Growth (STEG) is a private 501(c)6 not-for-profit organization with the mission to retain, expand, and attract industry and high-quality jobs to Chemung County, New York.

STEG is led by a seventy-five-member board of directors, with the majority of the directors being private business executives from Chemung County’s leading employers. Working together with chief elected officials, education, and civic leaders, these companies take the lead to ensure an equitable and prosperous future for Chemung County and its residents.

The board works in partnership with the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA) to acquire properties, structure deals with tax incentives, and develop projects of significant impact.

Business expansion and location decisions are determined by an increasingly complex and global set of considerations that tax breaks and financial incentives can’t always address. New business establishments continue to start and stay smaller, remote work is on the rise, and today’s workers will often prioritize a location over a job. STEG and the CCIDA address these critical issues and work together to secure the long-range economic vitality of Chemung County.
