Clear the Shelters: Starla’s story

Beverly and David Welch are a couple who were searching for a new addition to their family.

Coco, is their 14 month old Chocolate Lab who was bought for Beverly but was attached to David. Beverly heard about the Clear the Shelters event and wanted to get herself and Coco a companion.

All three headed to the Chemung County SPCA to search for that new family member. That’s where they found Starla.

“Clear the shelters was the motivating factor, when I saw her picture online…I couldn’t resist,” said Beverly. “So it’s just bringing the rest of my family on board with me.”

Starla is a seven month old puppy who was brought into the shelter December of 2018. She was adopted by a couple who realized they couldn’t give her the loving home she needed and returned her on August 2, 2019.

Just two weeks later, the Welch’s saw Starla and decided to adopt her.

Beverly said “there’s a lot of joy that comes from pets.” She also adds “I would encourage everyone to come out and clear the shelters because these pets need a home to live in.”
