ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM-TV) – An Elmira man involved in a shooting this past Wednesday on Linden Place in the city has been arrested, according to the Elmira Police Department. 27-year-old Daquan Hooks was also shot during the incident between him and another shooter.
Hooks, a parolee, has been released from the hospital and now is at the Chemung County Jail, police said Friday.
Elmira Police issued the following release.
On Wednesday, September 16th, 2020, Officers from the Elmira Police Department responded to the 400 block of Linden Pl. for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived on the scene they observed a large crowd had already gathered and people were seen running from the area. Officers were initially given conflicting stories about what had taken place. It was known that there were two shooters and that a white vehicle was seen fleeing the scene.
A short time later Officers were advised that a gunshot victim had been located as 766 Linden Pl. This person identified as Daquan L. Hooks, a 27-year-old Elmira resident. Hooks was tended to by the Elmira Fire Department and Erway Ambulance personnel. He was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The white vehicle involved was located and the driver interviewed. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Hooks and the other shooter were shooting at each other. The other shooter fled the scene.
Hooks is currently a parolee. An Arrest Warrant was issued for Hooks and he was taken into custody upon being released from the hospital. He is currently in the Chemung County Jail.
The Elmira Police Department was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police and the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, Elmira Fire Department, and Erway Ambulance. The investigation into this shooting is still under investigation and further charges are pending. ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Elmira Police responded to a shooting on Elmira’s eastside Wednesday night at Linden Place.
Reports of the shooting first came into the 18 Newsroom around 5:40 p.m. with reports of officers near Linden Place, Sullivan Street, and E. Washington Avenue.
Neighbors tell 18 news they heard about six gunshots as the shooting took place in the middle of the road.
One person was taken into custody and another was taken away from the scene in an ambulance.
The house was surrounded as police investigated the scene.
Elmira Police, the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police were on the scene.
