UPDATE: The Corning Police Department has arrested a 14-year-old who was involved in a stabbing incident of another 14-year-old on Monday night in Corning.
Police said the teen was charged as an adult with First Degree Assault and arraigned to the Steuben County Youth Part Court then released to a parent until they could be fitted with an electronic monitoring system.
Police said they arrested 14-year-old had been confronted with only the threat of physical force and used deadly physical force (a knife) without legal justification.
The Corning Police Department said the motive for the assault is still under investigation and any prosecution for this as a hate crime will be dependent upon the Steuben County District Attorney.
The teen will appear in court at a later date.

CORNING, N.Y. (WETM) – The Corning Police Department is investigating the stabbing of a 14-year-old boy in the area of the Centerway Bridge near the YMCA.
According to Corning Police, officers were dispatched on Aug. 2 around 7:25 p.m. and located the boy with multiple stab wounds. The teen was taken to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre where he underwent emergency surgery. Police say the teen has since been released from the hospital.
Police say the stabbing was preceded by a physical altercation near the Centerway Bridge and that the parties involved are known to each other. The incident is being investigated by the District Attorney’s Office and Corning City Police.
