Leslie and her husband, Cody, came to the Finger Lakes over a decade ago and knew it was the right place to raise their family. First one daughter was born, then a second. Through the years, in addition to her law practice with a local firm, Leslie has dedicated herself to active community service and to economic outreach on behalf of local businesses and farms.
When people across five counties began asking Leslie to run for this State Senate seat, she listened closely. As a parent and a taxpayer, Leslie sees clearly that we are not getting what we need from Albany. Leslie is not someone who does anything halfway. She has spent years doing the steadfast community work that helps keep our beautiful region full of hardworking families, productive farms, and good schools, despite Albany’s shortfalls. Today, Leslie stands ready to be the State Senator we deserve – hardworking, a good listener who takes the time to hear her community’s needs, and a strong advocate for our fair share.
Leslie is a daughter of farmers and a voice for better health care and rural economic development. She serves on the boards of multiple community organizations including the Tompkins-Cortland Community College Foundation, Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes, and the Tompkins County Public Library Foundation, and she has been active with the PTA at every school her children have attended. As a product of public schools herself, Leslie prioritizes getting all our children the opportunity for the future they deserve, with great schools, safe communities and good jobs when they enter the workforce.
Our region continues to receive less than its fair share from Albany. Our economy is still struggling out of recession, and our schools get shortchanged by political interests that steer funding downstate. We need a Senator with the strength and integrity to combat that instead of following the status quo. As a lawyer with a history of civil rights work who has twice been honored by the New York Legal Aid Society for outstanding community service, Leslie has experience winning tough battles.
This will be a hard-fought race. Entrenched power centers don’t like change, and money from downstate interests will flood our region to try to keep things the way they are. But we know that following the same, tired path will only result in the same problems. As a parent, Leslie is dedicated to our future, and as a seasoned advocate, she has the strength to navigate typical Albany politics that hold us back.
Leslie stands for jobs, schools, and farms. She’s ready to stand up to corruption and powerful moneyed interests and hold firm until we get our fair share. Join Leslie today. Together, we can do better.
