ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — Beth Dollinger, director of Southern Tier Healthy Kitchens, stops by 18 News Today to discuss a summer cooking program for kids.
The program is sponsored by Arnot Health and is taught by medical students at LECOM (Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine). It not only teaches children and teens to cook, but it also teaches them the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. The program consists of 4 modules with each module focusing on a different aspect of nutrition.
Each student receives a complimentary apron and cookbook filled with nutritious recipes. The program is free and open to kids between the ages of 9 and 14. There are 4 classes in the program that meet for 4 consecutive Thursdays; July 11, 18, 25 and August 1. Classes are from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Economic Opportunity Program located at 650 Baldwin St. in Elmira.
