No new Legionella cases reported in Chemung County


ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Chemung County Public Health Director Peter Buzzetti III tells 18 News that no new cases of Legionella have been reported after 11 people were hospitalized this year.

The Department of Health says they have sampled cooling towers, water tanks, large plumbing systems, and fountains in the area, as well as the homes of those affected.

None of the patient’s homes tested positive for Legionella.

The Health Department says “Legionella grows slowly therefore, results take several weeks to obtain.”
