UPDATE: Elmira Police: No police chase involved in Elmira car crash


ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) UPDATE: 4:28 P.M. According to Elmira Police Captain Anthony Alvernaz there was no chase.  Police tried to stop a car.  The car didn’t stop and then crashed.  Car was reported as an unauthorized use.  The driver was 16.  They know who the driver is but, he was not caught last night. 


A viewer captured a reported police chase and accident in the City of Elmira early Thursday evening.

Witnesses tell 18 News the alleged chase came to an end before 6 p.m. near the corner of 2nd and Columbia Streets. According to eyewitness accounts, three suspects were fleeing police.

They saw the suspects in a vehicle, trying to swerve around another vehicle that was driving along 2nd Street. When the suspects attempted to maneuver around the other vehicle, eyewitnesses said they struck a parked car pushing that vehicle into another parked car. 

No word on if anyone was hurt or taken into custody. We are waiting for information from the police.
