New York City is suing American Airlines over employee sick leave policy.

NYC’s department of consumer and worker protection filed the suit earlier this week.

The suit alleges the carrier retaliated against workers who use paid sick time.

The DCWP found American Airlines fails to pay sick leave at the required rate and fails to allow employees to use accrued sick leave.

The organization is seeking about $375,000 in restitution for more than 750 ground crew workers.

That includes agents, representatives, and mechanical employees.

DCWP commissioner Lorelei Salas says, workers, quote, “should not have to choose between going into work sick or getting in trouble for exercising their right to take a sick day.
