Christina Sonsire – Georgetown University soccer hall of famer
Local soccer was helped put on the map by our next special guest. No player is perhaps more recognizable than Elmira Notre Dame graduate, Christina Sonsire. A prolific scorer for the Crusaders, Sonsire was inducted into the school’s hall of fame, the Chemung County Sports Hall of Fame and the Section IV Hall of Fame. Sonsire was the then all-time leading scorer in the former STAC conference.
After high school, Sonsire excelled at Georgetown University becoming the first women’s soccer player to be inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame in 2017. A captain and four-year starter for the Hoyas until 1997, Sonsire is currently ranked sixth all-time in goals scored (26), sixth in assists (18) and sixth in points scored (70) at Georgetown.
Sonsire also continues her passion of the game by coaching the next generation of youth players locally.
A graduate of the University of Montana School of Law, Sonsire is now a lawyer at Ziff Law Firm in Elmira. Sonsire also represents District 7 on the Cheumg County Legislative panel.
Christina lives in Elmira with her husband, Damian, and their daugters, Laurel and Noelle. The Twin Tiers Sports Awards is proud to have Christina Sonsire as a featured guest speaker.
