ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM)- With the hot weather approaching it may seem like a good idea to go outside and hang out by your pool but it is still important to keep in mind that going out in this weather is dangerous.

After talking to physicians at Guthrie we learned that those with high blood pressure are at higher risk of heat-related emergencies due to their medications.

Beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, and blood thinners can all make it more difficult for your body to lose heat.

Doctor lux added if you see anyone who appears to be overheated and seems confused — it is recommended you call 9-1-1 immediately.
