Local law enforcement issuing “ice cream ticket” to bike riders

Local News

This is one kind of ticket everyone would be happy to get.

Local law enforcement officers are issuing “ice cream tickets” to children seen wearing a protective helmet while safely riding a bike.

Carter, 3, was in full compliance when checked by Deputy James Goodwin of the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.

The program is in partnership with local law enforcement, the Traffic Safety Board, and the Southern Tier Bicycle League.

Law enforcement hopes the program encourages all bicyclists, regardless of age, to wear a bicycle helmet and other protective gear that may be necessary to keep themselves safe anytime they are operating a bicycle

Businesses participating in the “ice cream ticket” program include The Dairy Barn, Fair Shake, Lickety Split, Rita’s Water Ice, Serendipity Ice Cream & Coffee, Sweet Frog Yogurt and Last Stand.
