One person hospitalized after dog attack

ELMIRA (WETM)- According to the Elmira Police Department, on Saturday, September 21, they responded to a report of a dog attack.

The attack happened on the Lackawanna trail, in Elmira near Judson and Water street. 

The owner of a dog had recently purchased a new puppy. It was while walking on the trail when the older dog of the owner, attacked the puppy. 

When the owner tried to protect the new puppy, the older dog turned on him and attacked. 

The owner used a knife to fend off the older dog. The owner was able to stab the dog to protect himself and the puppy.

When EPD arrived to the scene, they said the victim was being transported to Robert Packer Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. 

The older dog was euthanized because of the nature of the attack and it faced multiple stab wounds. The dog is now being tested for rabies.
