16th annual Buddy Walk set to take place at Eldridge Park

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — Patty Dates, committee member for the Buddy Walk stopped by 18 News Today to discuss the upcoming Rene Jones Memorial Buddy Walk.

The Rene Jones Memorial Buddy Walk celebrates people with all kinds of disabilities and the rights of all to be included in all aspects of the community. Buddy Walks are sponsored by the National Down Syndrome Society and are held all across the world. This Buddy Walk honors Rene Jones, one of the founding members of the group who had a daughter with down syndrome.

The walk will take place Saturday, September 14 at Eldridge Park. Registration is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Opening ceremonies begins at 11 a.m. This event is free and open to the public. There will be food, raffles, games and more for the entire family to enjoy.

For parents who have children with Down Syndrome, there will be a parent support meeting on September 21 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Nonnie Hood Parent Resource Center located at 300 Nasser Civic Center Plaza #210 in Corning. Childcare will be provided.
