Santa is coming to town and a holiday tradition is continuing for one neighborhood in Elmira.
As many Elmira natives know the Benjamin-Simons family start a holiday tradition over 44 years ago where they bring Christmas cheer to children of all ages around their very own neighborhood.
Santa and friends have been gathering in front of 1181 College Avenue for over 4 decades now. The tradition was started by Charles Benjamin’s late father back in the 1970’s.
In the beginning, the house took over 2 months to fully decorate and ladders were used to staple lights to the house as Santa would stand on the roof waving and taking pictures with children.
On Dec 22 and 23, the tradition will continue on as the Benjamin-Simons family hosts another Christmas celebration. The event goes from 7-9 p.m. and free pictures will be taken on Santa’s sleigh with Santa himself and Mrs. Claus. Free food and music will also be taking place in front of the well lit Christmas house.
Santa will not being showing up alone as he will be accompanied by plenty of friends. Santa is bringing Alfred the miss fit toy, Frostie the Snowman, Gingerbread man, The Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, and Micky and Mini Mouse.
