Albany County offers jail space as transitional housing for homeless

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A declining jail population has allowed Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple to take empty cells and flip them into space for the homeless.

Apple is calling it the Sheriff’s Homeless Improvement project.

Men coming in will have access to mental health counseling, addiction counseling, and job skill training.

Officials are also renaming the jail “Albany County Corrections and Rehabilitative Center.”
