ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — Don Braun and Katie Lilley stopped by 18 News Today to discuss an upcoming fundraiser for Wreaths Across America.

Wreaths Across America takes place every year in December. It is a national day where people across the country lay wreaths on the graves of fallen soldiers. In Elmira, the wreath laying takes place every year at Woodlawn National Cemetery.

There are 8,000 headstones at Woodlawn Cemetery. Last year, there was only enough money to pay for around 6,500 wreaths. Don and Katie have organized a motorcycle ride to help raise money to make sure that every headstone has a wreath this year.

The event is open to all. If you don’t ride a motorcycle, you can drive a car. The ride will take place Saturday, August 17, starting at American Legion post 443 located at 316 Lake Street in Elmira. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m.
