The Arctic League held its 2016 telethon on Sunday on WETM. The goal of the organization is to make sure that no child in Chemung County goes without gifts on Christmas.
The telethon is a labor of love put on by dozens of volunteers. Whether it’s donating cash or talent and time, President of the Board of Directors Delores Nicol said there is a role for everyone.
“It really is the continued support for our collective vision that Christmas for each child that makes Arctic League very, very worth supporting,” Nicol said.
A number of community organizations were there to present checks to the Arctic League for hundreds–even thousands of dollars. Phone lines were also set up to accept pledges from people calling in.
A Southern Tier institution, Pudgie’s Pizza, holds a golf tournament to raise money for the Arctic League. This year’s tournament proved to be a huge success.
The three hour broadcast was picked up by a number of media outlets. By the time it was over, Chemung County residents had shown their generosity, with donations totaling $49,300.
There are still ways to donate to the Arctic League if you missed the telethon. A number of banks are accepting donations, or you can donate on the Arctic League’s website.
