A familiar face has formally announced his run for the office of Chemung County Sheriff.
Art Laurey, a former marine who spent over 20 years working with the Chemung County Sheriffs office, plans to oppose Acting Sheriff Bill Schrom.
Laurey says his campaign focuses on integrity and most importantly transparency within the agency.
“I think that transparency is paramount to any agency to especially law enforcement has the opportunity if they do commit a crime, when they come out of there that they don’t have to worry about receiving a death sentence,” says Laurey. “There have been 4 deaths inside of an 18-month period and I think that’s a travesty.”
Laurey previously ran in 2016 against former County Sheriff Christopher Moss but lost.
County residents will vote on November 7th.
