Steuben County received about $180,000 in grant money from 9-1-1 cell phone surcharges.

Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler said New York State typically embargoes a vast majority of this surcharge money for their own purposes rather than funding local 9-1-1 costs.

On 18 News at Noon’s Ask The Manager segment, Wheeler elaborated on what these surcharges are, why the county received the grant and how they plan on utilizing it.
