Hector Presbyterian Church received a grant from the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and Finger Lakes, helped by American Rock Band, Phish.

We do get a lot of donations, said Food Pantry Coordinator Kitty SchallenbergerOne volunteer goes to the Amish auction every week. He brings us food, and we rely on that, added Schallenberger

We’re the church that gives away food, said Pastor of Hector Presbyterian Church Ben Masters. We’re the church that partners with community organizations that makes sure all of our neighbors are taken care of, added Masters.

The church is one of seven organizations chosen for the grant money. With that, those involved within the church said they take pride in making people feel safe.

I think they feel comfortable coming, said Schallenberger. I think the one thing we do is treat everybody with dignity and respect, I think that’s crucial. We give them food in between if they need it. All they have to do is call and put together food for them. And we have a lot of great people who donate, added Schallenberger
