Bath man arrested for kidnapping charges

A man from Bath, N.Y. was arrested on Friday, Nov. 30 after a robbery last month in Hornellsville.

Richard A. Vanorden, 41, of Bath was charged with Kidnapping in the 2nd degree (class B felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree (class B felony), two counts of Robbery 2nd (class C felonies), two counts of Grand Larceny 4th (class E felonies), and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child (class A misdemeanors).

Vanorden was arraigned at Steuben County Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail and $100,000 bond.

New York State Police from the Wayland, N. Hornell, and Bath barracks responded to a report of a robbery at Seneca Manor Apartments in the town of Hornellsville on Oct. 1, 2018. 

A 31-year-old victim reported that he was tied up with bed sheets and threatened with deadly physical force. 

A Rochester man was also arrested and charged in relation to the robbery during the initial investigation.
