The Chemung County Sunrise Rotary Club is spearheading an effort to supply foster children with bags and luggage.
“We stumbled across a club in California that currently supplies bags to foster children and we decided that we wanted to do that in our area,” said Melissa Morse, the club’s president. “We want children to feel like they’re worthwhile, that when they move to another home they can put their belongings in a bag, not a garbage bag which is what we heard was going on.”
The club is hosting a fundraising event called “Bowling for Bags.” For just $10, you can bowl as many games as you’d like to help raise money to purchase bags for foster children. The fundraiser is set to take place on Sunday, April 7 from 1 – 3 p.m. at Rossi Bowling Alley in Elmira. There will also be raffles, prizes, and a 50/50 drawing. All ages are welcome.
The Elmira Heights Rotary Club and the Horseheads Kiwanis Club are also pitching in to help with the effort.
