Charles Rogers, the 68-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle in Elmira on Tuesday, has died as a result of his injuries at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, according to the Elmira Heights Police Department.
Rogers was struck after an alleged hit and run on Grand Central Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
Sara Harnas, 40, of Elmira Heights has been charged with the following, and more charges are pending.
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Degree, a class E Felony.
Police say a witness observed the striking vehicle traveling north on Grand Central Ave. in an erratic manner while having extensive damage. The witness called 911 and remained on the phone with dispatchers while following the vehicle until officers could catch the suspect.
According to Elmira Heights Police Chief Rick Churches, Harnas turned on to Horseheads Boulevard and then turned right on to E. 14th Street. She then pulled over behind the old McDonald’s at the corner of Lake St.
The Elmira Police Department was assisted by the Elmira Heights and Horseheads Police Departments and the New York State Police.
