A car hit a gazebo on South Maple Street in Corning last night. 

According to tips from a viewer the driver of the vehicle allegedly attempted to flee the scene before being caught by a sheriff who was reporting to the scene of the accident.

Extensive damage to nearby mailboxes, along with the gazebo on South Main Street, is still visible at this time.

18 News has reached out to officials referring to the accident but they have not given us any more information at this time.
