Chemung County cracks down on stores selling e-cigs

News

Chemung County is cracking down on electronic cigarette laws.

Under ATUPA, known as the Adolescent Tobacco Use Prevention Act, the current law prohibits the sale of tobacco products to people under the age of 18.

The list that  included cigarettes, rolling papers, and nicotine water now includes electronic cigarettes.

The Chemung County Health Department is required to do compliance checks on places that only sell electronic cigarettes by complaints only.

Stores that do not comply will be fined up to a maximum of $1500.

They will, instead of having a compliance check once a year, have checks triannually.
