Chemung County is looking to persuade the online giant to set its new headquarters in the county after Amazon pulled out of its proposed Long Island City headquarters.

In a letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, county officials said they “would love the opportunity to welcome you into our community.”

The letter cited successful businesses in the region such as Corning Incorporated in neighboring Steuben County and the upcoming Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Elmira. The letter cited nearby attractions that would benefit Amazon employees such as the Finger Lakes and Watkins Glen International, and the availability of the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport.

The letter did not say what incentives the county would offer Amazon.

The letter was construed by Chemung County Christopher Moss; Elmira Mayor Dan Mandell;  David Sheen, Chairperson of the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency; Jeff Streeter, Chairperson, Southern Tier Economic Growth; and  Kamala Keeley, President & CEO, Chemung County Chamber of Commerce
