Truck accident at Steuben County landfill leaves one dead

BATH, N.Y. (WETM) – Updated April 11: On April 9, New York State Police responded to the Steuben County Landfill located on Turnpike Rd. in Bath for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the truck driver was moving his vehicle in reverse when victim James C. Miller was fatally struck as he secured the tailgate of a rollback dumpster. To date, no charges have been filed.  The investigation is ongoing.


New York State Police are currently conducting an investigation at the Steuben County landfill in Bath and a county coroner was on the scene.

According to our 18 News reporter at the scene, state police and the coroner left the landfill shortly before 5 p.m. Officials were at the landfill for several hours, but the nature of the investigation remains unknown at this time.

Troopers at the Bath barracks were unable to comment on the investigation.
