MANSFIELD, PA (WETM) – Mansfield University has shown a large increase in first-year students this fall.
In the fall of 2019 the university welcomed 450 students, a 38% increase from last fall. There was also a 2% increase in total enrollment on campus.
Mansfield University President, Charles Patterson spoke on what makes the university affordable and how that is attracting students.
In the past year the university reduced the tuition to a flat rate tuition model. This has brought down the cost of tuition by about 25% since last fall.
“This is a permanent tuition decrease, it actually helps offset a prior increase in tuition that was established under the previous administration,” President Patterson said, “So this is kind of a tuition reset back to an affordable pricing model for Mansfield University.”
Along with tuition cost decreasing, living on campus has become more affordable.
Cost of living on campus has decreased about 20%. President Patterson emphasized this is one aspect that helps make Mansfield University an affordable school in the Northern Tier.
Mansfield also enrolled students from six countries including, Australia, Canada, China, France, Mali, and the United Kingdom. 15 states are represented on campus including Florida and Washington.
