Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen: Ultimate fan experience with 18 News

Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen officially begins Sunday, June 30, at 9 a.m.

To kick off the fun, our very own Nikita Ramos took a hot lap with A.J. Alsup, the Chief Instructor for the Mercedes AMG Driving Academy in the U.S.

She gave an inside look of the twists and turns of the legendary track at Watkins Glen International going up to 150 miles per hour.

“Believe it or not, this is a pretty typical day for me,” Alsup said. “The racetrack is one of the only places where I’m 100 percent focused, there’s nothing else on my mind other than exactly what’s going on in the car.”

The car he drove for the hot lap was the Mercedes AMG GTR.

“What really makes the AMG GTR different from the rest of other sports cars is that it retains elegance,” Alsup said. “The quality of build is like none other and the performance speaks for itself.”

Guests at the track will be able to walk around the grid where some of the world’s most popular sportscar teams will be, including Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, Acura and more.

Some stars of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship include Jordan Taylor, Helio Castroneves, Juan Pablo Montoya and Andy Lally.
