Arne Feyling owns The Office Pool and Libations, a bar set to open next month on Market Street in Corning.
“This is a totally new experiment for us,” Feyling said.
Feyling said he and his wife started thinking about opening a place of their own when they couldn’t find another pool hall locally.
“So we said, you know, we’re looking for something to do in our spare time you know and my friend wife wanted to take on a new adventure so we decided to go ahead and build this,” Feyling said.
Feyling said having the bar in Corning was a must, for a few reasons.
“Well we really enjoy Market Street we think it’s an absolute gem in Central New York,” he said. “And it’s become quite a bit of a destination sort of place you know where people come from other places to come to Market Street and shop and perhaps dine and have a beer or do whatever and we thought it would be perfect. Plus you know it’s within walking distance of our house which we enjoy a not driving so it’s a perfect location for us.”
The Office has two brand new, 9 foot Brunswick pool tables for customers to use at no additional cost. Though the tables are regulation size, Feyling said they’re not planning on hosting any for-profit tournaments.
“We’re not really looking to be part of the whole pool league circuit,” he said. “So we’re not planning on having real for money tournaments but we will have events for those who like to play pool should absolutely come down and have a good time and see if they can get to the top of the pile.”
As for the name “The Office,” Feyling said they wanted something clever.
“Sort of a running joke you know, ‘Hey I’m still at The Office I’m going to be a little late,'” he said.
Feyling said he plans to open full time in January. If you can’t wait that long, you can stop by The Office Pool and Libations Tuesday Dec. 20 for a soft opening from 5 to 11 p.m.
