55-year-old Thomas Savino was arrested on Valentine’s Day for allegedly attempting to seriously injure an animal.
On Feb. 4, Savino contacted the Corning Police Department claiming he was bitten by a dog on Baker Street Extension. Two days later, he was spotted attacking a different dog. It was reported that Savino rushed the dog and threw a dangerous object at the animal. Police suspect it may have been a rock.
He was arrested on Thursday and charged with one count of Attempted Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. That charge alleges attempted to cause serious physical injury or extreme injury to the dog but was unsuccessful.
During the investigation, Corning Police learned that Savino may have been involved in a similar incident in January. More charges are possible.
Savino is set to reappear in Corning City Court on Feb. 19.
