Crime drops across New York, goes up in Chemung

New York State says crime fell between 2015 and 2016, but it was quite the opposite in Chemung County.

The state’s division of criminal justice services says crime such as larceny, property related crime and rape fell a total of four and a half percent statewide.

But in Chemung, these same crimes increased. In addition, aggravated assault rose the most by a whopping 17 percent.

Murder on the other hand increased in the state and in Chemung, but not in New York City.
