During the Chemung County Legislature’s meeting Monday night, District Attorney Weeden Wetmore was recognized for his work in a high profile case in Steuben County.
That case was the murder of Kelley Stage Clayton, which happened in Sept. 2015. Wetmore served as a special prosecutor in the case.
Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard attended the meeting to personally thank Wetmore and present him with a special proclamation. The Chemung County Legislature also presented Wetmore with a proclamation.
Michael Beard was convicted of murdering Kelley in Nov. 2016, more than a year after the murder. His trial was two weeks long. Kelley’s husband, Thomas, was convicted of murder for his role in the crime after a nearly seven-week-long trial in Jan. and Feb.
