Police now say alcohol was likely a factor in a two-car crash on Friday night on Route 50 in Saratoga Springs that sent three people to the hospital.

Saratoga Springs Police say Lucian Dublea, 40, of Troy, was driving south on route 50 around 7:43 p.m. Friday, when he drifted off the right side of the road, hit a guard rail, then bounced off and over the double yellow line into the oncoming traffic lanes. He then ran head-on into another car driving northbound within its proper lane.

The driver of the oncoming car, Brittany Chase, 23, of Greenfield, and her passenger, April Modina, 22, of Saratoga Springs were both injured and taken to Albany Medical Center, Chase by helicopter, and Modina by ambulance. Dublea was also flown to Albany Medical Center. Police could not provide any information on their current condition or injuries.

Police have cited Dublea with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and failure to keep right. The investigation is ongoing and police say more charges are possible.

Route 50 was closed in both directions at Avenue of the Pines and Geyser Road for hours Friday night, but has since been reopened.
