Elmira Firefighters conduct confined space rescue training

News

The increased Elmira firefighter presence on West Fifth Street was due to regularly scheduled confined space rescue training.

Every firefighter must be trained on confined space rescues in the city every year. This is in order to stay up to date with the latest rescue tactics to keep the public safe.

Confined spaces are defined by Elmira Fire as unconventional spots from which someone could need to be rescued. For example things like, silos, storage bins, and vaults.
