The New York State Department of Transportation announced Friday that, starting the week of Dec. 3, 2018, the traveling public will experience a new traffic signal at the intersection of State Route 14 (College Avenue) and 17th Street in the Village of Elmira Heights.
The existing traffic signal at the intersection of State Route 14 (College Avenue) and 16th Street will be coordinated with the new signal to ensure safety and maintain steady traffic flow in the area.
Work began on the intersection improvements in early November and will continue through the winter and spring.
The activation of the new signal will mark the accomplishment of the first phase of the improvements.
The second phase of work will include installation of final mast arm signal poles, completion of pedestrian signal facilities, and installation of sidewalks.
Once the signal goes live, the signal will operate in a three-color pattern in all directions.
