Ernie Davis’ last game-worn jersey has picked up nearly $12,000 in bids in the Lelands Spring 2019 Classic Auction, which closes at 10:00 p.m. Friday night.
The number 44 jersey was worn by Davis during the 1962 Coaches All-America Game, and the opening bid was set at $5,000.
The auction also features a game-used ball carried by the Elmira-native during the team’s 1959 National Championship season and a 1959 Syracuse team-signed football.
The current bid on the game ball is up to $3,368 and the team-signed ball is up to $6,725.
The most popular item available in the auction is a ball autographed by 11 original Hall of Fame members from 1939 with a current top bid of over $101,000.
The ball features the signatures of George Sisler, Cy Young, Tris Speaker, Eddie Collins, Connie Mack, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Larry Lajoie, Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner.
