Ernie Davis’ last game worn jersey up for auction

Ernie Davis’ last game-worn jersey is one of several pieces of sports memorabilia available in the Lelands Spring 2019 Classic Auction, which opens for bidding today and runs through June 7.

The number 44 jersey was worn by Davis during the 1962 Coaches All-America Game, and the opening bid is set at $5,000.

The auction also features a game-used ball carried by the Elmira-native during the team’s 1959 National Championship season and a 1959 Syracuse team-signed football.

Among the most popular items available in the auction is a ball autographed by 11 original Hall of Fame members, who were all present at the inaugural induction ceremony in Cooperstown in June 1939. The ball features the signatures of George Sisler, Cy Young, Tris Speaker, Eddie Collins, Connie Mack, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Larry Lajoie, Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner.

Jerseys worn by sports legends Bobby Orr, Terry Bradshaw, Jack Ham, and Bobby Clarke are also featured.
