FDA warns against use of certain teething items

The FDA issued a warning on Thursday against using teething products including: necklaces, bracelets and other jewelry marketed for relieving any teething pain or products that offer sensory stimulation. 

According to the FDA report, these products should not be used with infants or persons with special needs, such as autism or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

Such use could lead to strangulation, choking, serious injuries, or even death.

The the FDA said safety and effectiveness of teething jewelry to treat teething pain and/or provide sensory stimulation have not been established.
