The Federal Government is taking new precautions to protect Medicare participants.

New cards are in the mail to help thwart scams aimed at seniors enrolled in Medicare.

The cards will have an 11 digit identification number instead of Social Security numbers.

Congress mandated the change by April 2019.

All 59 million participants will get the new cards over the next year.
