Field of Hope event hopes to raise money for Mitochondrial disease


ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — Brittany Lackey, event coordinator for Field of Hope and Carter’s Christmas stopped by 18 News Today to discuss an upcoming event in honor of her late son.

Field of Hope is a summer event held in honor of Carter James Lackey, who passed away when he was nine-months-old due to a Mitochondrial Disorder called Leigh’s disease.

The event will be held Saturday, August 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Athens Wesleyan Church located at 3903 Wilawana Rd. in Sayre, PA. The event is free and open to the public. All of the money raised goes to the Carter Lackey Family Research Fund with the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.

To date, the Carter Lackey Family Research Fund has raised around $25,000 for treatment, trials, and research. Their goal by the end of this year is to reach $30,000 to be able to fund 3 research projects.
