Despite some concern with notices on the door of First Arena, the arena met with officials, and they still remain on track for the Elmira College graduation on Sunday, June 2.
First Arena, a fixture in downtown Elmira, is facing code violations that must be addressed by the close of business on Thurs. May 30.
Elmira City Manager Mike Collins tells 18 News that the arena has been put on notice and ”the city is working with the First Arena to remedy these violations.”
Elmira Enforcers owner Robbie Nichols, who leases First Arena during the hockey season, tells 18 News that he will be meeting with code enforcement at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nichols feels confident that the violations, which included issues with doors and a boiler, cleared in time.
Elmira College currently has its commencement scheduled on June 2 at First Arena. Representatives from the college were not available for comment.
18 News will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
